Explore the whitewashed charm of Tetouan which still showcases a strong Spanish heritage before immersing yourself in the vibrant blue streets of Chefchaouen. Continue to the historic medinas of Fes and Meknes, stroll through the archaeological site of Volubilis, and experience the magic of the Sahara Desert in Merzouga. Discover the stunning Todgha and Dades Gorges, visit the iconic Kasbah Amridil and Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, and cross the majestic Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. Conclude your adventure by visiting the highest mosque of Morocco, the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, the royal capital city of Rabat, and the coastal beauty of Asilah before returning to Tangier.
Itinerary
Day 1: Tangier - Tetouan - Chefchaouen
Departure in the morning from Tangier to Tetouan. Visit of Tetouan and its Andalusian influenced architecture - after the Spanish Reconquista, the town of Tetouan became the home to many Andalusian refugees who had been expelled from Spain. In the afternoon, we will make our way to Chefchaouen, the blue city of Morocco. Arrival and visit of Chefchaouen. You’ll get to admire a panoramic view of Chefchaouen during sunset time. Check-in in the hotel. Free time.
Day 2: Chefchaouen - Fes
Departure from Chefchaouen to Fes. There, you will get to learn about the rich history of the medina of Fes with a local guide. He will walk you through the city’s main landmarks: Bab Boujloud, Medersa Bou Inania, Medersa Attarine, Karaouiyne University and Mosque, Moulay Idriss II Mausoleum, Chouara tannery, Seffarine square, Fondouks,… Check-in to your riad in Fes. Free time.
Day 3: Fes - Meknes - Volubilis - Boulajoul
Departure from Fes to Meknes. Visit of the medina of Meknes with a local guide. Then, we’ll make a stop in the archaeological site of Volubilis which was declared Unesco World Heritage site in 1997. The most amazing features of this ruined Roman city are the many beautiful mosaics preserved in situ. Night at the hotel in the village of Boulajoul, halfway between Meknes and Merzouga.
Day 4: Boulajoul - Merzouga
Departure in the morning from Boulajoul to Merzouga. On the way, we will have a small break in the palm groves of the Ziz valley. Arrival in the afternoon in Merzouga. Camel ride in sunset time from the village of Merzouga to your desert camp. Dinner, traditional music around a fire, star gazing.
Day 5: Merzouga
Departure from the camp in the morning. Camel ride from the camp to the village of Merzouga. You will start a 4x4 tour from Merzouga. First, you will visit the Morocco National 4x4 Auto Museum then enjoy some Gnawa music in the village of Khamlia (which is still exclusively inhabited by descendants of black African slaves coming from Mali, Sudan and Senegal, who now speak Berber as their mother tongue). The tour will continue in the desert, with some panoramic views, a visit to an abandoned mining town and a tea with nomadic families who kept their traditional lifestyle and are still living in Bedouin tents. Adventure in the dunes with the 4x4. Possibility of sandboarding. Berber pizza (“Medfouna”) for lunch. Arrival to the hotel in the village of Merzouga in the afternoon. Free time in the hotel, relaxation by the swimming pool. Dinner and nighttime in the hotel.
Day 6: Merzouga - Todra Gorges - Dades Gorges - Kasbah Amridil - Ouarzazate
Departure from Merzouga. Stop in the Todgha Gorges, Morocco’s Grand Canyon. Visit of the Dades Gorges, known for the funny “monkey fingers” rocks. Then, we will take the way to Ouarzazate. On the Thousand Kasbahs road, we will make a stop at Amridil Kasbah, a fortified residence founded in the 17th century in the oasis of Skoura. Arrival in Ouarzazate, check-in at the hotel. Free time.
Day 7: Ouarzazate - Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou - High Atlas Mountains - Marrakech
In the morning, visit of the Atlas cinema studios in Ouarzazate (where some world-famous movies and TV shows were shot like Gladiator and Game of Thrones). Then, you will walk around the impressive UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah. We will make our way to Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains and enjoying panoramic views from Tizi-N-Tichka Pass. Arrival in Marrakech. Check-in at the riad. Free time: you can visit Marrakech by night or relax with a hammam and spa time. At sunset, the Jemaa El Fna square comes to life: musicians, acrobats, story tellers, food and juice stalls,… The square stays busy until late at night.
Day 8: Marrakech - Casablanca - Rabat
In the morning, enjoy a guided tour of the Medina of Marrakech. The tour will take you through the Bahia Palace, Medersa Ben Youssef, El Badi Palace and other landmarks. And of course, you will pass by the souks where you’ll get to buy some local crafts : carpets, ceramics and pottery, leather goods,… Then, we will make our way to Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco. Visit of the Hassan II Mosque and small tour in the city. Way to Rabat. Check-in at the hotel in Rabat. Free time.
Day 9: Rabat - Asilah - Tangier
In the morning, visit of the landmarks of Rabat, the capital city: Oudayas Kasbah, Bouregreg river, Medina, Hassan Tower, Mausoleum of King Mohamed V,… Way back to Tangier. On the way, we will stop by the coastal charming city of Asilah. Arrival in Tangier and check-in at the hotel. Free time.
Day 10: Tangier
Visit of the city center of Tangier and its surroundings (caves of Hercules and cap Spartel). You’ll have a traditional northern style tea in Hafa cafe.
End of the 10-day trip and drop-off at the airport if needed.
